TOP STORY
1. Wittenberg Moves Online After Threats on Campus

According to a Wittenberg University campus alert on Sunday afternoon, “As the University continues to assess these threats in partnership with the Springfield Police Department (SPD) and FBI, all Wittenberg classes will be remote tomorrow, Monday, Sept. 16. Students engaged in field, clinical, or other off-campus experiences should follow the protocol of the agency where they are placed. Professors will communicate their expectations to their students. Faculty and staff are also expected to work remotely, except for essential employees. All events, athletics, and activities will again be canceled tomorrow.”
» Driving The News. “They were the latest in a series of threats against government offices, schools, hospitals and other facilities in Springfield since former President Donald J. Trump and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance of Ohio, began sharing false information about immigrants in the city 45 miles west of Columbus stealing and eating pets, said the Columbus Dispatch.”
» What They’re Saying. "University administrators recognize that the city of Springfield has experienced an increase of threats to local government, businesses and schools in the past week," Wittenberg officials posted to the school's website Sunday. "We take this threat seriously and will provide updates to the campus as we learn more about the situation."
» Canceled. Wittenberg canceled a home field hockey match with Concordia (Wis.) and a home women’s soccer match with Capital on Sunday.

4. NCAA Approves Gallaudet’s Use of a Helmet For Deaf and Hard of Hearing Players This Season

“The NCAA has given full approval for Gallaudet’s football team to use a helmet designed for players who are deaf or hard of hearing for the remainder of the season.
The helmet developed by Gallaudet University and AT&T debuted last year with the team getting the chance to play one game with it. The Bison won that day after opening 0-4, and it was the start of a three-game winning streak.
The technology involved allows a coach to call a play on a tablet from the sideline that then shows up visually on a small display screen inside the quarterback’s helmet.”
» Going Through Your Progression. “Gallaudet gaining approval for the helmet in Division III play comes just as audio helmet communication has gone into effect at the Division I level.”
» Quotable. “It’s just a matter of time before it comes on down to our level, which would really put us at a disadvantage if we didn’t have an opportunity like this,” Gallaudet coach Chuck Goldstein said. “We’re grateful to have that opportunity to keep going and learning and see what feedback we can give the NCAA and kind of tell them about our journey.”
