Jack Lutte had a moment that he will never forget as the junior outfielder delivered a game-winning RBI single in the bottom of the 10th to give Denison a 4-3 victory over Endicott for the DIII national baseball championship.
Kelly Crittenberger started the inning with a base hit and Eron Vega moved him to second with a single. Lutte lashed a liner to right field that scored Crittenberger to give the Big Red (51-3) its first-ever DIII baseball title.
Devin Parker came out of the bullpen and tossed 7.1 innings of scoreless relief, scattering a pair of hits while walking two and fanning eight for the victory.
The Gulls (44-14) forced the decisive winner-take-all contest with a thrilling 11-10 triumph in 10 innings. John Fusco drove home the winning run on a sacrifice fly to force the series to go the distance.

2. Trump Boosts Senate’s New College Sports Proposal: ‘Last Chance To Save College Sports’

“President Donald Trump threw his support behind the Protect College Sports Act, a new Senate bill that would create a federal rulebook for collegiate sports, urging lawmakers to come together on a bipartisan law for his signature this summer in a social media post Thursday.
“This Law resolves many of the most urgent issues challenging our Universities and Student-Athletes, stops the chaos and, most importantly, it may be the last chance to save College Sports, and Colleges themselves, before it’s too late,” he wrote on Truth Social.”
» Driving The News. “The bill, a brainchild of Senate Commerce Chair Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and ranking member Maria Cantwell (D-Wash.), would enact limits on transferring for student-athletes, ban coaches from moving schools mid-season and enshrine certain “name, image and likeness” protections.”
» Worth Noting. “The Southeastern Conference and Big Ten, college sports’ two largest and wealthiest conferences, announced their opposition to the Senate bill Tuesday, writing that it doesn’t “meaningfully preempt the patchwork of state laws or provide the protections needed to make and enforce consistent rules.” Both supported the House’s SCORE Act.”
» What They’re Saying. “The House of Representatives tried multiple times to pass a bill. Unfortunately, it failed,” Cruz said at the hearing. “The Protect College Sports Act is the only bipartisan bill. It is the last best hope we have to save college for us.”
3. Career in Sports Forum Prepares Nearly 175 Students For Success After Graduation

“Last week, the NCAA hosted the Career in Sports Forum, a four-day event in Indianapolis that brought together nearly 175 student-athletes. With a Campfires to Careers theme, the forum aimed to help college athletes successfully navigate their career journeys after their playing days end.
The forum provides student-athletes with opportunities to network with peers and decision-makers in athletics. The program helps student-athletes understand how their personal strengths and career opportunities intersect.”
» Court Awareness. “Each session broadened learners' understanding of the diverse roles available in the sports sector, helping them to envision their futures more clearly. Learners participated in industry-specific breakouts, including coaching, creative industries, internal relations, external athletics and professional sports.”
» What They’re Saying. "There was a quote in a session that said, 'The comfort zone is a beautiful place, but no growth happens there.' I've gotten out of my comfort zone these past four days. We learned about vertical connections — networking with people above you — but also horizontal connections — networking with your peers. The amount of horizontal and vertical connections I've made these past three days has been beneficial." - Josiah Marshall, Anderson (Indiana)
» Quotable. "We created a growth plan of where we want to go in the next year, looking at the different avenues of how we want to achieve those goals. For my goal, I said I want to get a full-time job after graduation. Then we brainstormed ideas of how I can make that goal possible." - Sam Carlson, Hope
