Henry Angier, Methodist


Eighteen teams, headed by Methodist, advance to the third round of the NCAA Division III Men's Golf championship in Florida.

The Monarchs hold a six-shot lead over Carnegie Mellon and are eight in front of Hampden-Sydney.

Methodist's Henry Angier fired a two-under-par 69 to take over the individual lead by a single shot over Hampden-Sydney's Nick Rubino and Huntingdon's Grant Gronka at 141.

Nine of the top 10 teams in the last GCAA poll advanced to the final two rounds. No. 10 Mary Hardin-Baylor missed the cut by three shots.

The first round of the Division III men's lacrosse tournament is complete.

Albion d. Dubuque, 11-6

Norwich d. Maine Maritime, 20-12

  • Payden Masaracchia scored six times while Parker Campbell had 2-5. The Cadets (19-1) travel to Tufts.

Stevens d. Maritime, 16-8

  • Michael Burns and Mikey Whiteside each had three goals and two assists. The Ducks (13-7) visit Dickinson.

John Carroll d. North Central (Ill.), 11-3

  • Matt Berdysiak tallied four goals and Jon Gaglio made 15 saves. The Blue Streaks (17-2) travel to Union.

Sewanee d. Benedictine, 18-9

  • Will Wyckoff scored six times, while Ryan Hofstetter added three with four assists. The Tigers (9-8) visit Christopher Newport.

Stockton d. UMass Boston, 26-11

  • Dante Poli scored eight goals and handed out three assists. The Ospreys (17-2) travel to Salisbury.

3.  Eagles Flying High



Aliea Clark, New York U.

We are halfway through the Division III women's golf championship and top-ranked Emory has taken control through 36 holes.

The Eagles hold a 14-shot advantage over runner-up Pomona-Pitzer and 21 shots clear of George Fox.

New York U.'s Aliea Clark carved out a one-under-par 71 and has a one-shot lead over Emory's Ellen Dong, who fired a four-under 68. First-round leader Annie Mascot of Washington (Mo.) skied to a 76 and is three shots back.

  Minnesota Morris SS Alex Baumann and East Texas Baptist RHP Sayers Collins were named the NCBWA National Players of the Week.

  Christopher Newport defenseman Max Wayne was selected by the Atlas Lacrosse Club in Tuesday's Premier Lacrosse League Draft. He is the first DIII player ever drafted by a PLL team.

  Saint Mary's (Minn.) will phase out 11 under-enrolled majors over the next few years in moves that will also result in laying off 13 faculty members.
