Graham Denomme '23 vs LVC (2019-20)

Unranked Elmira stunned No. 1 Geneseo, 4-3, on Saturday night handing the Knights their first loss of the season.

Janis Vizbelis and Graham Denomme scored third-period goals to break a 2-2 tie and lift the Soaring Eagles (9-3-1) to their ninth win in 13 games. Geneseo fell to 11-1-1.

Jeffrey Zero made 38 saves for Elmira, including 18 in the frenetic final 20 minutes, as the Knights outshot the hosts, 41-21.

2. Going Stagg




Defending champ North Central and Mary Hardin-Baylor will meet for the 2021 NCAA Division III football title on Friday night in Canton, Ohio.

The Cardinals (13-0) ran their winning streak to 24 games with a convincing 26-13 win at Mount Union. NCC ran for 290 yards and held a 16-minute advantage in time of possession.

RB Ethan Greenfield led the way with 190 yards on 31 carries, while QB Luke Lehnen tossed a pair of TD passes.

QB Kyle King threw for 248 yards and two scores and favorite target Brandon Jones snared 11 balls for 164 yards as the Cru (14-0) knocked off Wisconsin-Whitewater, 24-7.

Stagg Bowl XLVIII kicks off at 7 p.m. EST from Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium in Canton, Ohio.

Wrestling (M)
  • No. 9 Coast Guard snapped a 20-year losing streak against No. 14 Johnson and Wales with a 24-14 triumph. Tony Ulaszek recorded a fall at 149 for the Bears.
     
  • No. 11 Baldwin Wallace won the North Central Invitational, defeating the top-ranked hosts along with No. 2 UW-La Crosse and No. 7 Augsburg.

Ice Hockey (W)

  • Jerica Friese recorded her first career hat trick, including the game-winning goal in overtime, as Concordia-Moorhead shocked No. 2 UW-Eau Claire, 3-2, on Friday night.
     
  • It was a big weekend for No. 4 Plattsburgh as the Cardinals topped No. 3 Elmira, 4-3, and No. 10 Norwich, 2-1.
Basketball (M)
  • No. 8 Wheaton (Ill.) toppled No. 3 Illinois Wesleyan in the game of the weekend. Nyameye Adom led the Thunder with 24 points.
     
  • Tough weekend for top-10 teams as No. 7 Elmhurst and No. 9 Mary Hardin-Baylor also fell by the wayside.
Basketball (W)
  • No. 12 Simpson cruised past No. 5 Wartburg, 90-74, as Regan Freland tossed in 23 points.

4. Diversity Grants Available


Proposals are being accepted for Division III diversity grants.  The grants provide funding to schools and conference offices committed to enhancing ethnic minority and gender representation in athletics administration. Grant proposals must be submitted via the NCAA Program Hub by 5 p.m. Eastern time on Jan. 31
