1. Hull of a Year

Hanna Hull of Virginia Wesleyan Named 2020-21 NCAA Division III Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year

Virginia Wesleyan University standout pitcher Hanna Hull has been named the 2020-2021 CoSIDA NCAA Division III Academic All-America® Overall Team Member of the Year, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A mathematics major with a 3.65 cumulative GPA and 3.85 GPA while pursuing a master of business administration degree, Hull was selected as Division III Softball’s Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for the second consecutive season.

A first-team selection to the Academic All-America® Division III Team the past three years, Hull was named the 2021 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Pitcher of the Year after she led Virginia Wesleyan to its third national championship in four complete seasons.

>> Behind the Numbers: She totaled a 23-3 record and three saves with 200 strikeouts, a 1.31 ERA and .134 opponent batting average in 154.2 innings pitched this spring. Hull broke Division III’s career record for pitching wins (132) and appearances (170), and finished fourth in strikeouts (1,353) and games started (138). She recorded 60 games of 10 or more strikeouts.

>> What They're Saying: “Hanna has amazed us all throughout her illustrious career for what she has done inside the circle. She is a once in a career type of talent,” said Virginia Wesleyan head coach Brandon Elliott. “However, when you combine that with the academic honors, like this, and her character she’s the standard which may not be attainable ever again.”

It’s also a measurement of how many people are paying attention to and interacting with your brand on a daily basis. Businesses that focus on building their social media engagement can benefit from better marketing reach and ROI, and a greater brand awareness that makes it easier to attract new customers.

3.  Constitutional Advisory Council

The NCAA Division III Administrative Committee will create a Division III specific constitutional review advisory council.

The council will allow for greater representation of Division III members, and it would provide feedback, input and support to the Division III representatives on the Board of Governors' constitutional review committee.

The Administrative Committee will discuss the advisory council’s composition and charge during its Aug. 30 videoconference.

6. Your Holiday Gift List

It feels way too early to think about Christmas, but now is the time to check some gifts off your list, writes Linh Ta of Axios Des Moines.

>> Why it matters: The high demand for products over the holiday season is expected to further "clog" already backed-up shipping channels, said Jennifer Blackhurst, professor of business analytics at the University of Iowa.

  • Procrastinating means running the risk of not getting your presents on time.
>> State of play: Companies are expected to suffer from bottleneck supply and demand through 2021 as they scrounge for raw materials, shipping containers and labor, Blackhurst said.>> Read the full story
